VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- A student at Bishop Sullivan Catholic allegedly sent a "disturbing photo" to some of his peers and has since been dismissed from the school because of it.

A parent sent 13News Now a screenshot of the photo from Snapchat that depicts a gun with the caption "Tomorrow is the day."

A letter from Dr. Paul D. Fallon, principal of the private school, said the student's peers immediately forwarded the image to school staff.

Virginia Beach police were notified and an investigation is ongoing.

Detectives have suggested the student did not intend to cause harm, however they are still determining if charges will be brought against him.

Fallon stated a Sheriff is on campus throughout the day and sent this message to the school's community regarding their safety:

"Our students' and faculty/staff safety is a priority. Any potential threat, be it perceived, assumed, or actual, will be responded to with swift actions that enhance the security and safety of all."
