SUFFOLK, VA (WVEC-TV) -- They say never let them see you sweat on TV. But, members of your 13News Now team don't mind letting you see them sweat while doing volunteer work. In fact, we encourage you to volunteer and pitch in and help the community, as well this Saturday.

It's Make A Difference Day -- an effort by TEGNA, the parent company of 13News Now and ABC 13, to spark a spirit of volunteerism all across the country. This year, members of 13News Now will spend time helping to rehab the William A. Hunton YMCA in Norfolk so it can continue to serve kids and families. We will fix-up classrooms there and help with beautification projects.

Last year, the news team assembled to help build 9 houses for Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads on Lake Kennedy Drive in Suffolk.

We came away with an enormous sense of pride knowing that our construction work would build a community and better lives for people and families.

"We are on the ground floor of helping a family experience the American dream of home ownership," said 13News Now anchor Regina Mobley. "It's amazing."

Volunteers from construction companies and the military and other community groups helped us lay the foundation for the homes, then professional builders handled the rest.

It was a fantastic team effort that is building hope for people moving in -- like Kristy Boone.

"I'm extremely proud to have my own home," Kristy said. "I'm really excited."

13News Now was excited to help. And we're excited to help again this Saturday at the Hunton Y.

"The Hunton Y has helped so many children over the years with academic programs and athletic programs," Regina said. "This is our way to thank such a valuable organization that has given back to the community and has meant so much for so many years."
