WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WVEC) -- You can use coupons to purchase food, clothes, and ...cats?

The Heritage Humane Society is working to empty their kennels with a new coupon deal every Thursday, until August 19. These coupons will be released in preparation of upcoming weekend adoptions.

"In effort to break last year's Clear the Shelters record of 53,000 pets adopted in the weeks leading up to the nationwide event, HHS is pulling out all the stops," said Heritage Humane Society Marketing Manager Darci VanderSlik. "We are holding our breath, hoping that all our cages will be empty by the end of this promotion."

The Heritage Humane Society's cages are filled to the brim with cats and kittens.

The two coupons released by the shelter include a 50% OFF Adult Cat Adoption Fees and Adopt One/Get One Kittens. Those coupons bring the fees down to $37.50 for adult cats and $50 a kitten.

The adoption fees cover spay/neuter surgery, microchip, flea/tick preventative, heartworm prevention, basic canine/feline vaccines and a wellness exam. That package deal works out to over $300 per pet.

The adoption weekends will run every weekend from noon until 4:30 p.m. Thursday - Sunday, until August 19.
