OUTER BANKS, NC (WVEC) -- Airbnb is offering free temporary housing to people evacuated from Ocracoke Island after a massive power outage forced visitors from the island earlier this week.
The free accommodations is a part of the company's Disaster Response Program. The temporary housing will be available between July 27 and July 31.
Airbnb sent 13News Now this statement:
"Today, Airbnb activated our Disaster Response Program to assist those who have been displaced by the power blackout in Ocracoke, North Carolina find free temporary accommodation. Through our program, those in need of temporary accommodations as a result of this disaster–including emergency relief workers and volunteers–are able to connect with Airbnb hosts who are opening their homes free of charge from now through July 31, 2017."Our thoughts are with the residents of North Carolina and all who have been affected by this evacuation and those emergency personnel supporting the response. We encourage those who are able to open their homes to those travelers in need of one night to a few days as the situation evolves.”
