VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Christmas in the Country is an event that helps folks get excited for the season, but also provides money for high school students and single parents to go to college.

The event is hosted by the Cape Henry Woman's Club is the local chapter of the General Federations of Women's Club.

Christmas in the Country includes a home bake shop (cakes, breads, nuts, jellies, cookies, candies), homemade Brunswick Stew sale, and crafts made by members of the Club.

Funds raised provide four 4-year $1,000 scholarships: two to high school seniors, one to a single parent, and one to a nursing student from Vo-Tech. Additionally in May the Club will distribute about $4,000 to local organizations such as Girl Scouts, Tidewater Winds, SPCA, veteran's group, St. Mary's Home plus about 20 other groups.

The Christmas in the Country open house will be held at 2345 Santa Fe Drive, Virginia Beach in the Lago Mar/Back Bay area from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6th.
