CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- As a teenager continues his long recovery following a serious car crash that also injured two of his classmates, his family is rallying the community to help pay for his mounting medical bills.
Jonathan Gillette, a senior at Currituck High School, was airlifted to the hospital following a crash on Highway 158 in Currituck County back on February 18 along with two other teens. A family member tells 13News Now Jonathan was in a coma for more than two weeks and that while he is now awake, he has many challenges ahead in his recovery.
On Thursday night, the Chick-fil-A at Edinburgh Commons in Chesapeake will host a fundraiser to help with Jonathan's medical expenses. Among the activities are raffles, 50/50 drawings, and pie throwing. The fundraiser will go from 6 to 8 p.m. at the restaurant, located at 205 Carmichael Way, Chesapeake VA 23322.
In addition to Thursday's fundraiser, the family has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money, as well as a CaringBridge with updates on Jonathan's condition.
