SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Emergency crews helped rescue a couple from their sinking boat at Lone Star Lakes Sunday.

The couple, from Virginia Beach, called for help after their rubber Zodiac boat struck something in the lake and began losing air and taking on water.

Crews from the Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department arrived at Lone Star Lakes Park on Kings Highway at 6:40 p.m. They were able to borrow a jon boat from a nearby family that had just returned from fishing on the lake.

The couple were both wearing life jackets and were rescued from the water, nearly 200 yards offshore. They were found clinging to the deflated boat.

After being rescued, the couple received emergency medical assessment and given blankets due to the cold water temperature. They did not require any further medical treatment.
