SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A contractor struck a natural gas line causing a gas leak in Suffolk.

On Thursday at 9:16 a.m., the two inch line was cut in the 100 block of Ridgecrest Drive in the Oakridge Subdivision.

According to Suffolk Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief David Harrell, the Virginia Natural Gas crews have stopped the gas leak.

Officials reported that 3 residences have been evacuated as a precautionary measure, but they are allowed back into their homes.

Roadblocks have been established at the intersection of Ridgecrest Drive and Grove Avenue and at Colonial Drive and Pond Drive.

The Virginia Natural Gas crews are on site repairing the line.
