NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A teenager was shot in Newport News Thursday night.

Around 9 p.m., police received a call for a shooting in the 2300 block of Madison Avenue. When officials arrived they found a 16-year-old victim with a wound to the back area.

The teen is a Newport News resident and was taken to a local hospital with possible life threatening injuries.

Possible eye witnesses claimed to see a dark colored vehicle speeding away south on Madison Avenue. There is no other suspect information at this time.
