NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Police are working to learn more about a homicide after a man was fatally shot in Newport News Friday night.

We're told dispatchers were notified about the shooting around 8:20 p.m. in the first block of Prince William Rd.

Officers were dispatched to that location, where they found 34-year-old Corey David Hunter suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Medics rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives have learned Hunter had been involved in a physical altercation with a man who is believed to be the shooter. The suspect is currently being held on unrelated charges at this time.
