VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- A man admits to stabbing someone at least 10 times outside the Blarney Stone Pub in Virginia Beach.

21-year old Marquel Lasala is speaking from behind bars, claiming self defense.

Police say the stabbing happened Monday outside the bar on South Plaza Trail. Lasala says he was caught in the middle of a fight inside.

Home surveillance shows what appears to be a commotion outside. That's where Lasala says the victim confronted and shoved him, claiming to be a gang member.

He says he then took out his knife in an effort to protect himself.

"I cannot deny that I didn't stab him ... in my eyes, it was self-defense, because I was just outside smoking a cigarette. And here comes this guy and we started scuffling."
