NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have made an arrest in connection to a shooting in Newport News on Wednesday night.

The shooting happened just after 9:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of 76th Street.

When emergency crews arrived, they found a 58-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her abdomen. She was taken to a local hospital with what appears to be non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute and on Thursday, 53-year-old Kenneth Wendell Billups of Hampton was charged with malicious assault, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
