NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- One man who was convicted of 12 felonies pleaded guilty Monday to a slew of cocaine and firearms charges in Newport News.

Court documents state that 44-year-old Clarence L. Lyons distributed cocaine, cocaine base and heroin during Feb. 2017..

On Feb. 24, authorities arrested Lyons as he came out of a hotel room and found a loaded firearm, marijuana, cocaine and heroin on his person.

They found a syringe and marijuana smoking device in his hotel room.

Investigators learned that Lyons was usually in possession of a firearm when he engaged in narcotics transactions

Lyons pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine and carrying a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

He faces a mandatory minimum of five years and a maximum of life for possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

Lyons is expected to be sentenced on Feb. 20, 2018.
