MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) -- A man from Mathews County was arrested on Wednesday in Tennessee for sodomy with a victim less than 13.

Over several months, the Mathews County Sheriff's Office had been investigating a complaint received about a number of sexual assaults that took place in the county between 1990 and 2006.

According to police, it was a complex investigation and evidence was uncovered that led to several indictments against the suspect.

The suspect, 60-year-old Edward C. Thomas of Lutts, Tennessee.

Investigators from Mathews County traveled to Lutts to locate and arrest Thomas.

Edward Thomas was charged with 4 counts of Sodomy with a victim with less than 13 years of age, Aggravated Sexual battery of a victim less than 13 and Object Sexual Penetration of a victim less than 13 years of age.

Thomas was extradited back to Mathews County on July 26, and is currently being held in the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center.
