NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A man has been detained after police found him parked in a handicapped space, with marijuana and a firearm in his car Wednesday night.

According to police, at 10:41 p.m. in the 500 block of Purlieu Drive, a silver vehicle was parked in a handicapped space with a single person sitting in the driver seat.

When officers approached the vehicle, 34-year-old Roderick Piggott of the 100 block of Picard Driver in Newport News exited the vehicle and began to walk away.

The officers saw marijuana inside the vehicle and Piggott was detained.

A concealed firearm was also located inside the vehicle, so Piggott was arrested and charged with Possession of Firearm by Felon and Possession of Marijuana.
