PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- In June, detectives with the Portsmouth Police Department Special Victims Unit began an investigation after a police report was filed for a long term sexual abuse of a juvenile female.

On July 24, detectives charged and arrested 36-year-old Antwann Miller in connection to the case.

Miller was charged with several sex related crimes including aggravated sexual battery, sexual object penetration, and indecent liberties with a child by custodian.

Detectives continued to thoroughly investigate this case and, as a result of their findings, submitted paperwork to the Portsmouth Commonwealth Attorney's Office requesting additional charges against Miller through indictment.

A grand jury certified over two dozen indictments against Miller for sexual related crimes to include 2 counts of rape, 4 counts of forcible sodomy, 4 counts of object sexual penetration, 5 counts of aggravated sexual battery, 6 counts of indecent liberties with a child by custodian, and 6 counts of indecent liberties with a child.

Miller was served his indictments on November 6.

He is currently being held at the Hampton Road Regional Jail.
