ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WVEC) -- Authorities are working to track down a group of men accused of shooting at a police vehicle during a pursuit Elizabeth City overnight.
We're told this happened in the 700 block of Brooks Ave. between the hours of midnight and 3 a.m. Friday.
Officers heard several gunshots in that area and spoke to residents there.
One resident told an officer they heard someone "banging" on the front door. A second person told police he was held at gunpoint, and then fired at with a gunshot, after the suspects attempted to force him into that home.
The victim ran away and was unharmed and described the suspects as four black males, one of whom had dreadlocks and was approximately 30-years-old.
Police located a vehicle near that location driving at a high speed and began to pursue it.
One officer states that the vehicle's occupants fired a gunshot at his patrol vehicle. Afterward, he conducted an evasion tactic and stopped his car.
Neither the officer or the patrol car were struck by the gunshots.
The suspect vehicle got away, but police describe it as a small 4-door Nissan passenger vehicle.
At this time, police are unsure if the attempted home invasion and police pursuit are related, but if anyone has anymore information, they're asked to call police.
There could be a possible cash reward for tips that further the police investigation.
