NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Investigators say a Newport News woman assaulted her boyfriend, shattered his cell phone and took a hammer to his car.

Officers were alerted to the situation on Sunday, after the victim, a 53-year-old man called 911.

The victim told investigators that he went to a concert earlier that night with his girlfriend, who has now been identified by police as 46-year-old Gwendolyn Lynch.

During the concert, Lynch allegedly got upset with the victim because she thought he was looking at other women.

Investigators say that during their drive back home, Lynch began to strike him the victim repeatedly. They go on to say that at some point, the victim stopped the car to let her out, so she could get a ride home with her brother.

The victim then allegedly returned home to gather personal belongings. As he was leaving, Lynch allegedly confronted him and refused to let him leave.

That's when investigators say Lynch got out a hammer, and began to damage the victim's car. The victim allegedly tried to drive away, but Lynch pursued him and hit him in the shoulder with the hammer. She also allegedly shattered the victims cell phone on the street.

The victim had some minor bruising, but is expected to be OK.

Police say warrants were obtained on Lynch for two counts of Assault on a Family Member and Damage Property. She has not yet been arrested and the warrants remain outstanding.
