NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Inspiring teachers to energize their classroom methods: that's the goal at the 2017 Inspiring Teachers Conference.
Young Audiences Arts for Learning Virginia (YAV) is teaching the teachers. The non-profit group uses different art forms to explore new ways to teach classic school subjects.
The conference aims to present practical tips, resources, and ideas for integrating the arts into core curriculum for classrooms from pre-K to 12th grade.
The conference's keynote speaker is Andrew Watson, a fine arts instructional specialist for Alexandria City Public Schools. He was the recipient of the 2015 Art Education Technology Outstanding Teacher Award from National Art Education Association (NAEA) and is a leading Arts and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, together with art) educator.
Attendees can also win a bag of summertime goodies to savor the last few weeks before school starts.
The Inspiring Teachers Conference will be on Friday, July 21 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the ODU Darden College of Education in Norfolk,
