BLACKSBURG, Va. (WVEC) -- A new logo unveiled by Virginia Tech marks a new chapter for the university.
The school revealed its new academic logo alongside some fresh branding Tuesday.
In a news release, university officials say the new logo is supposed to encompass the full scope of the Hokie community and the essence of the school's spirit.
“I think everyone with a connection to the university understands that Virginia Tech is a special place,” said President Tim Sands. “To me, this brand represents all the good things in our community, from our foundational commitment to service to our aspirations of solving the world’s most challenging problems and making a difference for future generations. I’m proud to be part of this chapter in Virginia Tech’s history."
The university's new logo is also supposed to mirror the "flying VT" shape that's displayed by the athletic department.
The former logo, a shield with the words "Virginia Tech," served as the logo since 1991 and will be retired.
The tagline, "Invent the Future," will also be retired and the university will no longer have a tagline.
