NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- In honor of Mentally Healthy Norfolk month, the city will be hosting a senior speed dating event Wednesday, October 18.
The goal of the event is to bring people together with lots of smiles and good conversations, hopefully creating lasting connections.
According to the American Psychological Association, 15% of adults aged 60 and over suffer from a mental disorder. One of the major contributors toward depression and poor mental health among seniors is a feeling of isolation.
The event will be set up so that each senior will be able to spend a few minutes talking to someone before moving onto the next person.
People of all ages are invited to the event. You might just meet your new senior best friend.
The hour long event will be held at the Primeplus Norfolk Senior Center on Newport Avenue starting at 2:30 p.m.
