VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- An important gathering taking place this weekend in Virginia Beach.

The non-profit "Vetshouse, Incorporated" will be holding its annual "Stars and Stripes Affair."

More than 840 homeless military veterans have gone through the 12-month residential program since 1992.

This year's guest speaker will be Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe.

"Very important," said Vetshouse Executive Director Willard Smith. "The governor has a stake in trying to eradicate homelessness in the Commonwealth of Virginia. So him coming out to kind of bless us so to speak, is very important to us as an organization."

For the fifth straight year, 13News Now Military Reporter Mike Gooding will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the black-tie dinner. The event is at 7 p.m. Saturday night at the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel on Shore Drive.
