HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- A barricade situation became a death investigation Monday night.

Police learned of shots fired in the 400 block of Dare Ave. just before 7:45 p.m.

When officers arrived they began blocking off a perimeter before hearing more gunfire from a home in the area.

According to a preliminary investigation, an armed man walked into a home and several shots were fired.

Police later found the suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Anthony Nathaniel Vinston, outside the home suffering from a possible cardiac arrest. He was taken to a local area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No one else was injured.

Hampton Police Division's SWAT went inside the home to make sure no one else was inside.

The case remains under investigation.
