Hampton Roads Kidney Walk raising awareness of kidney disease

Held in nearly 100 communities, more than 75,000 walkers join National Kidney Foundation to raise over $8 million to help kidney patients and their families each year. More than 80 cents of every dollar donated directly supports NKF programs and services.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- You still have a more than a month to sign up to take part in the National Kidney Foundation's annual Hampton Roads Kidney Walk.

On May 19, more than 850 people are expected to step up for the event to raise awareness of kidney disease, organ donation, and the importance of early screening and healthy lifestyle for those at risk.

The walk will kick off at 24th Street Park in Virginia Beach.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the non-competitive 1 mile and 3K walk begin at 10 a.m.
