NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A massive cruise ship is leaving Norfolk after it's been docked at the Decker half moon cruise terminal all day Wednesday.

It'll be heading for New York Wednesday night.

The two thousand passengers spent the day in Norfolk. As many passengers told 13News Now, they've been one step ahead of Hurricane Matthew, so they aren't worried about it.

They've been reassured by their captain they'll make it to New York with no problems.

"It's not fast enough to catch up with us but it's speeding up is what he said," said Stefanie Schaefer, a passenger from Germany.

AIDAluna cruise officials said once the ship docks in New York, they will re-evaluate traveling plans to make sure it's safe to head back to Germany.

Passengers say they expect to be back in Germany by Sunday.

Another cruise ship is coming on Thursday.

Silverseas Cruises will dock at 7:30 in the morning. This one is a lot smaller, bringing in just 130 passengers.
