VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- A local restaurant is collecting donations to sent to those devastated in Puerto Rico by Hurricane Irma and Maria.
De Rican Chef Restaurant in Virginia Beach started collecting water, non-perishable food items, medical supplies, and dry goods since September 25.
On September 29, 4 shipping containers were full and ready to go to Puerto Rico. De Rican Chef's Facebook page shows supplies, like cases of water, canned goods filling the restaurant.
In the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico only 5 percent of electric customers have power, and there have been 16 confirmed deaths.
According to De Rican Chef, on September 29 they have three more shipping containers that need to be filled.
A Gofundme page was started to help raise money for the cause.
Anyone can donate to the restaurant at 3208 Holland Road Suite 105, Virginia Beach during normal business hours.
De Rican Chef is an authentic Puerto Rican restaurant that has served the Hampton Roads area for over 10 years.
