VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Some drivers may have noticed a dip in gas prices in recent weeks, but AAA said it's not a trend that's going to last.

Spring is right around the corner, and so is an increase in the price at the pump.

AAA forecasts the national gas price average will be as much as $2.70 a gallon. Americans have not paid that much since Summer 2015 when the price of gas was $2.81.

"This spring, consumers may have to make decisions on where they can cut costs to cover gas prices that are potentially 40-cents more per gallon," said Georjeane Blumling, AAA Tidewater Virginia spokesperson.

Despite the expected increase in the upcoming season, AAA does not expect the national gas price to be reminiscent of 2011-2014 when drivers were paying about $3.47 a gallon.
