CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- A fire in Chesapeake that started at 4 p.m. on Saturday kept firefighters busy until almost noon on Sunday.

Firefighters responded to a residential fire at the 2400 block of Shillelagh Road.

Smoke and heavy flames were coming from the small one story residential home.

The area the house was located was not near a municipal water system so the fire department had to bring water.

On Saturday, 2 firefighters were treated for heat related illnesses and one was transported to the hospital.

Firefighters remained on the scene all night extinguishing flare ups.

The last crew cleared the area at 11:28 a.m.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and the Red Cross is providing assistance to the displaced occupant.

The firefighter who was transported to the hospital remains hospitalized.
