Friends, family grieve after 15-year-old killed; 2 juveniles in custody

"He didn't deserve it. He really didn't deserve it at all, but we're going to get justice for him. He's going to get his justice."

NORFOLK Va. (WVEC) -- Two juveniles have been arrested in connection with the killing of a 15-year-old on Monday.

Friends and family are left with questions and grief after a 15-year-old boy was killed in his home just across the street from Norfolk State University on Monday.

Police responded to a townhome located at the corner of Corprew and Madison Avenue around 3 p.m. The 15-year-old was unresponsive and not breathing.

Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.Norfolk Police said they are calling this incident a homicide investigation. Detectives said the 15-year-old was found injured inside the home.

One juvenile has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder, and the second was charged with accessory after the fact. Both are being held at Norfolk Detention Home.

According to a school friend and neighbor, the boy's who died was Daemon Person. Police have not released the identities of the juveniles involved in Daemon's killing.

The property owner, Reginald Bryant, told 13News Now that he's known the Daemon and his family for 6 or 7 years.

Bryant said the family is incredibly kind, and Monday's death is the first time anything like this has happened.

Bryant said Daemon is the second oldest in a family of 3 kids.

“He wasn't of a violent nature. Kept his room neat. Never had to fix much of nothing in his room,” said Bryant.

Brena Davis lives in the same neighborhood, doors away from the Dixon home. She is a junior at Booker T. Washington High School. She knew Daemon, a sophomore at the same school.

"Everybody in our school is just like so shocked about it," said Davis. "He was just a really beautiful person like all he did was a joke and play and he was in ROTC and he was a really good cadet. His personality was everything. His whole aura his spirit and it was like a blessing to be around him."

Davis said she walks to school with Daemon, but on Monday she didn't go to school.

Now she said she wishes she had.

"We walk home together, so if somebody followed him I maybe would've seen it, and I just feel like I could've helped him," Davis said.

On Thursday, Norfolk Public Schools issued the following statement:

Norfolk Public Schools (NPS) again finds itself reeling from the tragic death of a student. There truly are no words to express the sorrow felt by everyone in the district as we processes the fact that the lives, families and loved ones of three young people have been forever changed. Our thoughts are with all who have been affected by this incident. Supports are in place to assist students and staff deal with the wide range of emotions that they may be experiencing. We continue to find comfort in the memories of those NPS family members who have left us far too soon.

The family declined to give a statement Tuesday, but the community is hoping someone is held accountable for Daemon's death.

"I hope they catch who did it because it’s not right,” said Bryant.

"He didn't deserve it. He really didn't deserve it at all, but we're going to get justice for him. He's going to get his justice," said Davis.

Norfolk Public School officials said they provide extra counseling and support for students during tragedies.

Police have not released any further information surrounding this investigation.
