CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- Hundreds of bikes were given to local kids for Christmas on Dec. 16 as part of the Mount Bike Drive.

Kimberly Wimbish, the publicist for the organization, told 13News Now people lined up and waited patiently for their new bikes as early as 8:15 a.m.

The bikes were delivered around 9 a.m. and were handed out to families with the help of the entire Oscar Smith High School basketball team.

The event, organized by L Jay Brown, allows local churches to pair with schools to give bikes to kids in need.

To date, they have given away 3,000 bikes.
