VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) --Police were led on a car chase down I-264 Wednesday morning.

A Virginia State Trooper noticed at 2:45 a.m. a 1999 BMW traveling westbound on I-64 going 79 miles per hour struggling to stay in its lane.

The trooper attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop.

The driver exited the highway at Rosemont Road and ran the red light.

The car was stopped suddenly after crashing at Bonney Road.

The driver tried running away on foot while the two passengers were detained immediately.

With the help of the Virginia Beach Police Department, the driver was captured and returned to the scene.

Travis Aaron Joyner, 37, of Virginia Beach was charged with felony eluding, speed, resisting arrest, and driving on a revoked operations license and DUI.
