Two arrested in connection to Isle of Wight, York County bank robberies

CARROLLTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have two bank robbery suspects in custody Friday night.

The Old Point National Bank located on Carrollton Blvd in Isle of Wight County was robbed by a white male wearing a fake beard.

A gray Chrysler Sebring was leaving the bank, and police were notified to a second vehicle related to the incident near Warwick Boulevard and 73rd Street in Newport News.

An Isle of Wight County patrol unit was in the area and responded to this location. As he approached, a gray Nissan Altima the male passenger fled on foot and were seen throwing an object.

That object was later determined to be the disguise worn during our robbery. The driver of the Nissan was taken into custody. He was identified as Roscoe Freeman, a 33-year-old black male of the 400 block of Chestnut Ave in Newport News.

The passenger who fled the scene was later identified as 33-year-old Russell Hudgins.

With the help of Newport News Police Department, a K-9 unit from the Newport News Sheriff's Office, Newport News Fire Marshals Office, York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, and the FBI, Hudgins was taken into custody.

Detectives told 13News Now that the suspect in Friday's robbery was involved a bank robbery that occurred in York County on Wednesday.

In York County, the C&F Bank located in the 2800 block of George Washington Memorial Highway was robbed.

On Friday, police arrested 33-year-old Russell Hudgins from Newport News.

According to officials, the suspect arrived and left in a late model Dodge Ram Pickup truck with a matching camper shell. The vehicle also had a large brush guard on the front and aftermarket black wheels.

Hudgins and Freeman were both charged with Bank robbery, and Conspiracy to commit a felony. Hudgins was additionally charged with 1 count of wearing a mask in public, and possession of stolen property.

Both were taken to Western Tidewater regional jail on a no bond status.
