SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) - All of Puerto Rico remains dark without power just hours after Hurricane Maria made landfall on the island as a Category 4 storm.

Here in Hampton Roads, people have family on the island and are worried for their family. Elizabeth Williams-Rawlins lives in Suffolk and feels helpless.

"There is no other place I would rather be. I want to go home," Williams-Rawlins said. "I can be so much more there than I can do here."

Williams-Rawlins said her whole family is in Puerto Rico and is bunkering down.

“I am asking God why," she said. "I know you aren't supposed to question him, but I do ask him why. It's been two weeks and it's the third hurricane one on top of the other."

From Irma, Jose, and now Maria the Caribbean hasn't caught a break.

Elizabeth hopes once things slow down, she hopes people don't forget about what the storm left behind.

"I need people not to forget that the Caribbean needs help, this is not something that just is going to stop once the hurricane leaves. We are going to need a lot of help."
