CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- A dog bit a 4-year-old boy around 1 p.m. Friday.

Chesapeake police spokesperson Kelly Elliott said the incident happened in the 700 block of Stewart Street while the boy was playing in the back yard of a home.

The child was bitten under the eye and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The dog is described as bulldog mix and is currently in custody with animal services.

It's not clear what may have caused the dog to bite the child, and the incident is currently under investigation.
