CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- If you spotted a dolphin swimming in Intracoastal Waterway waters near the Great Bridge Bypass Friday morning, don't fret.

That dolphin is not in distress, according to Virginia Aquarium officials.

13News Now viewer Rachel Brantley-Grass sent us video of the dolphin this morning, which she saw near the Great Bridge Bypass (VA-168).

We reached out to the Aquarium Stranding Response Team who was notified of multiple sightings.

Public Relations Manager Matthew Klepeisz told us that based on all the reports they received, the animal appears to still be free swimming, despite the odd location.

"Just being in an unusual habitat is not necessarily cause for alarm, but we are certainly keeping an eye on it," Klepeisz wrote us. "We are actively monitoring the animal and situation, and encourage people to report sightings of the animal to us."

He asks that people report animal sightings to the aquarium by calling (757) 385-7575. Please do not approach any animals.
