HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- A driver is charged in a five-vehicle crash that injured five people in Hampton.

Police say 31-year-old Xavier James Alton Mclaughlin hit four vehicles stopped on Mercury Blvd. at Brookside Drive because of a downed power line.

He and three others in the car ran off after the 6:35 p.m. accident, said Sgt. Jason Price, and they were later caught.

Two people in stopped vehicles and the three passengers in Mclaughlin's car, all juveniles, were treated at the hospital.

Mclaughlin was charged with two counts of felony hit and run (Injuries), four counts of felony Hit and Run (Property Damage), one count of driving while suspended, one count of speeding 61/45 and one count of fail to wear a seat belt.
