HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- The wave of clown-related threats is no laughing matter. Hampton Police say they've arrested a teenaged girl who solicited a clown to kill her teacher.

Police say they received a call on Sunday evening about a social media post where the teen had reached out to a person who was using an alias and had a clown photo for their profile picture, and asked that the clown murder one of her teachers at Davis Middle School.

The teacher was made aware of the situation and to ensure her safety. At this time it does not appear anyone else was threatened. There is an increased officer presence Monday at Davis Middle School.

Police say they have arrested a 13-year-old girl and charged her with one count of threatening to kill by electronic message. She is currently in custody at a local secured detention facility.

Hampton Police say they take each of these threats seriously, even though there has been no information to indicate these threats are credible.
