HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Fire investigators said a warehouse fire started because of a welding operation.
An employee who was at the business in the 300 block of E St. called emergency dispatchers about the fire shortly before 7 a.m.
Because of the volume of smoke and the contents of the warehouse, Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue signaled a second alarm and received help from the Newport News Fire Department.
Crews put put the fire out in about 30 minutes.
One firefighter had a heat-related injury and went to Sentara Careplex Hospital. The firefighter was released the same day.
