NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- One person was killed in an early morning shooting Tuesday in Newport News.
Police said the shooting happened at an apartment unit at the Christopher Crossing Apartments around 1:30 a.m.
The victim, 44-year-old Miacah Archells Cooper, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe the suspect fired from outside the apartment building.
On Tuesday, a Christmas decorations still hung on the window where bullets shattered glass. One resident, who didn't want to identify herself out of fear, said a man lived there with his family.
“The only time we've ever talked was when I first moved in here and welcomed me to the community," she said.
No suspect description is available at this time. Many folks 13News Now spoke with said they have plans on moving.
“It just really cuts deep because there's someone out there who next Christmas, they're going to look back and say 'This is the day that we lost our loved one,'" the woman said. "And it's going to cut them deep, too.”
