NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Police are have multiple investigations ongoing, following a violent night in Newport News.

Investigators say two people were shot and a third person stabbed in three separate incidents.

The first incident happened at about 9:44 p.m. in the 600 block of Kates Trace Circle. Arriving officers found a 43-year-old man sitting on a couch with gunshot wounds in both legs. The victim told police he was walking home from a nearby fast-food restaurant when an unknown man walked up behind him and asked for spare change.

When the victim replied he didn't have any spare change, he saw the suspect point a gun at him and fire multiple shots, hitting the victim twice. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
