Two men hurt in Newport News shooting

The Newport News Police Department is investigating after receiving two calls for a shooting.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Newport News police are investigating after receiving two calls for a shooting.

Around 8:20 Tuesday night, Newport News Police and Fire responded to the 700 block of 34th street in reference to a 28-yer-old man who had been shot in the chest. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Moments later, a second call came in for a 20-year-old who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg in the 3500 block of Wickham Avenue. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe both men were shot in the 3300 block of Marshall Avenue, but fled in different locations after the shooting.
