NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Crews are took on a house fire in Norfolk Thursday afternoon.
Someone called 911 around 3:20 p.m. about a fire in the 9500 block of 24th Bay Street, near Pretty Lake Avenue.
Arriving firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the exterior of a house, spreading to a nearby fence.
Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames on the outside. While the fire did not extend to the house next door, several windows were damaged by the radiant heat from the fire.
The fire was brought under control by 3:35. A cat was rescued from the house and returned to the homeowner.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and the house did have working smoke detectors. The residents have made arrangements to stay elsewhere until they can return to the home.
No injuries are reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
