MAKING A MARK: Group helps service members secure financial freedom

A local team with "Active Duty Passive Income" is teaching military members and veterans about real estate investing.

NORFOLK, Va. — Those who serve fight for our freedom. Mike Foster, Ryan MacFarland, and Rosa Williams help them secure financial freedom.

Foster was planning for his future while still in uniform. “A friend of mine, we kinda came together with this idea because we both invested in real estate,” said Foster, a former lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. “We realized that there is no program that educates the military about the VA loan, which is our most basic real estate tool.”

In August 2017, Foster and his friend created a program to teach real estate investing to military members and veterans. It’s called Active Duty Passive Income.

U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Ryan MacFarland, who is also a realtor, came on board after learning about the program last year. “Mike was putting on a seminar for a lot of our younger sailors and just active duty… and kinda [explained] what it looked like to invest in their future versus just getting their 1st and 15th paycheck.”

MacFarland said the program is beneficial for service members that want to learn more about the resources available to them. “So many of them just don't know that they have these benefits, let alone how to use them properly,” he said.

Rosa Williams is an administrative assistant and special events liaison with ADPI. She joined forces with the team knowing firsthand, she said, the value of additional revenue streams to a military family. “Even with my father, he was able to create something to leave my mother,” Williams said, who watched her father invest in real estate years ago while he served in the military. “Using his resources allowed him to buy other properties.”

Through education, coaching, and mentoring, the team helps men and women who serve for years create cash flow for a lifetime. “If they're building their empire while they're fighting overseas or while they're fighting for our country's freedom… then they can earn a little bit of that freedom that they're fighting so hard to defend,” said Foster.

ADPI's learning tools include a book and a bi-weekly podcast, which Foster hosts. Visit https://www.activedutypassiveincome.com/ for more information.

Their next in-person seminar is June 6 in Norfolk. To register or learn more, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/military-house-hacking-seminar-tickets-60638524459.
