Police identify man found shot to death outside Norfolk home

The shooting happened around 9:30 a.m. in the 700 block of C Avenue.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Police said a man was found shot to death outside a Norfolk home Wednesday morning.

The police dispatch supervisor said the shooting happened in the 700 block of C Avenue just after 9:30 a.m.

Arriving officers found an adult man outside the home suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have identified the victim as 52-year-old William James White, Jr..

Neighbor Thalia Hinds said she heard four gunshots.

“It hurt me because usually on this block, we don’t have anything but I just knew four shots somebody was dead,” said Hinds. “It just hurt me because that’s someone’s child, someone’s loved one that was gunned down for whatever reason.”

Neighbor Kaneal Coley said the shooting is “shocking” and that the man who lives in the house where the shooting occurred is in his 50’s.

“I see him around you know, pretty often,” said Coley. “Pretty cool guy, doesn’t really bother anybody.”

Norfolk Police Spokesperson Will Pickering said, “A suspect has not been identified at this time, however, we are actively pursuing leads in this case.”

No other information was immediately available.
