NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Shoppers in Norfolk have a new place for savings: the city's first Sam's Club opened its doors for business on Thursday morning.

The members-only retailer is located at 741 East Little Creek Road, and held its grand opening at 8:30 a.m.

"We're excited to open our doors in Norfolk and bring legendary member service to a cross-section of military, business, education and residential communities," Club Manager Kevin Nesbitt said in a press release. "Members will enjoy discovering new items and saving on several new benefits, including travel, auto buying and our convenient Club Pickup ordering service."

Nesbitt and Sam's Club associates awarded $25,000 to several local non-profit groups at the grand opening, including:

  • The Union Mission Ministries
  • Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD)
  • USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia
  • Susan G. Komen Tidewater
  • Cosmopolitan Club of Norfolk
  • Salvation Army of Hampton Roads
  • Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia
  • Norfolk SPCA
  • America Foundation for Suicide Prevention
  • Hope U Foundation
  • Dogs on Deployment
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Norview High School

Non-members are encouraged to visit the new location, and take advantage of a free one-day pass available online or at the store's Member Service Desk.
