NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- New businesses are popping up in Downtown Norfolk's Neon arts district.

On Saturday, Commune opened its doors to the public. The restaurant and art gallery is taking the place of Work Release.

You may remember, four years ago the city started its "Better Block" initiative in the arts district. It's a community-driven revitalization project that aims to transform neighborhood blocks.

Since then, the arts district blossomed into a vibrant community that hopes to attract more artists and businesses.
