NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Detectives with the Norfolk Police Department say a call reporting a suspicious person in Ocean View has been cleared.

The incident began shortly after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when Norfolk dispatchers received a 911 call regarding a man with a "cloth" badge talking to two young children on 8th Street. A woman saw the man talking to the children and called police.

Officers arrived to the scene and were given a description of the man and a possible truck he was driving.

After an investigation, detectives found the man was a Norfolk police officer on his way home from work. The officer was in his personal vehicle, still dressed in his full uniform, and saw several young children playing in the road, one of which was nearly hit by a vehicle.

The officer stopped to speak with the children in an effort to get them out of the roadway and play safely on the sidewalk or yard. After the officer was sure the children were safe, the officer continued home from work.

Police say there is no foul play, police impersonation concern or attempted abduction concerns.
