NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Authorities have released the name of the man who was killed in a shooting incident involving Norfolk Police over the weekend.

Investigators say 39-year-old Tyson Chad Williams was shot after he opened fire on an officer standing outside an Ocean View home. The officer was struck in his bullet-proof vest and was treated and released at a nearby hospital.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

Virginia State Police are handling the investigation, at the request of Norfolk's Police Chief.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative duty, pending the outcome of the investigation.
