NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have identified a woman they say set a 2-alarm fire at a Norfolk Dollar Tree Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out around 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of Little Creek and Granby Street.

When firefighters arrived to the store, employees told them the fire originated in an aisle at the back of the store. As they began to extinguish the fire ceiling tiles and other building materials began to fall. The fire was upgraded to a 2-alarm fire after crews were forced to leave the building due to high heat and dangerous conditions.

It took 54 firefighters over 2 hours to bring the fire under control.

Alexis Carr has been arrested for the fire and charged with Arson to an Occupied Dwelling.

Nick Renesis, who owns The Pancake House and Grill next door to the Dollar Tree, said Carr dined at his restaurant before allegedly setting the fire.

"She left her shoes and from what we can understand, she went next door to the Dollar Tree and asked where the lighters were, and set an aisle on fire," he said.

Police blocked all entrances into the shopping center parking lot.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital an evaluation after the fire.

The inside of the store was heavily damaged. It will be closed until further notice.
