NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Norfolk city leaders shredded documents related to the investigation into ex-Sheriff Bob McCabe just weeks before they were supposed to be turned over to the feds, according to a report from our partners at The Virginian Pilot.

Through a Freedom of Information Act request, they found those documents involved proposals for the jail's medical services.

The FBI has been investigating McCabe's connections with the medical provider who won that contract -- Correct Care Solutions -- since January.

A city spokesperson says they complied with the FBI's requests, and those documents were not part of the investigation.
